A Step in Time on Kakepuku
It was a sunny Wednesday morning. The room5ians and I were on the bus heading to Kakepuku, our lovely mountain surrounded by beautiful farms lands. Today every one was all very excited but to me it was another confusing and boring day in my life that I would soon forget knowing little about what was up ahead.
When we pulled up to the bottom of Kakepuku we jumped out of the bus and sat down in the clearing suddenly we heard a loud but beautiful screech.
“That’s funny I have never heard that bird before’’ said Mr. Woody “ooh, and I’m sure that last time I came here there was a sign here telling us about Kakepuku, in fact when was the last time any of you saw a car”
“When we left, I think” answered Emily R
“Now that you mention it I don’t remember seeing any farms or house” said Mr. Woody “Anyway hop into you traveling groups and then we shall be off”
“What about the parents?” asked Logan
“Oh, your group can wait for them” said Mr. Woody “Ok now off we go”
We began to climb while talking to our group. In my group there was Savannah, Brenda, Ella and Linda. While we were walking we hear the bird again
“Oh do you hear that? Asked Mr. Woody “I think it might be that exscinded bird called the Huia”
We stopped half weigh up the mountain in a clearing to eat our lunch. While Mr Woody was chatting while we ignored him and were chatting away to our friends and I was chatting to Savannah when we notice that Mr. Woody has disappeared
And all you could was a gasp of horror washing over us like a wave that’s about to crash
“What do we do?” cried Marissa “and were is Emily W?”
“She has gone to the toilet” replied Brenda
“Ok calm down everyone” shouted Hilary “the best thing we can do is be calm”
“My friends and I will follow that animal track” said Richard pointing to the track that was squashed grass with thistles sprouting out the side.
“We will go up the side track” said Max pointing to the track opposite to the animal track.
“We will go up the middle” said Marissa starting to head up the track between the side track and the animal track.
“And my friends and I will go looking for Emily W” said Joelle heading down the mount to were Emily W had disappeared.
When every one had gone the rest of us (which was Hilary, Liena, Linda, Maria and me- Courteney) set up camp. Liena made a small shelter out of sticks, a tarpaulin
And sleeping bags. Linda and I unpacked the water and first aid kits while Maria went and looked for food.
We had just finish when Maria bust through the bushes and lay shivering on the floor.
“Linda gets here quick” shouted Liena “and Courteney get the first aid kit”
“What happened?” I asked
“I don’t know, I was collecting food when I felt something bite me” huffed Maria
“Hmm, looks like a white tail spider bite” said Linda “but I have never seen one that big”
“I’ll start cooking tea’ said Liena
We got Maria on to the bed, had dinner and went to sleep.
During the night it began to rain. I could hear a scurry of feet and a murmur of voices. I tried to sit up but when I did I hit my head on something hard and fell back to sleep.
BBOOOOOMMM! I woke up to the sound of thunder. Opening my eyes I found my self in what I hoped was just a bad dream, Maria as gone and Liena was shaking Hilary awake.
“Where’s Maria” I asked Linda who was half asleep,
“She’s disappeared’ answered Linda “the only thing that we found was blood on the ground and then there’s the possibility that it might not be hers.”
“Anyway here’s a mandarin” said Liena handing us all one.
Suddenly a chill breeze blow by and something ghostly flew into Liena and she suddenly fell to the ground twitching around violently. It was an amazing site then she got up and stared murmuring to a kauri trees.
“Is she ok” I asked
“I don’t know” whisper Linda walking over to Liena. By the time she had reached her Liena was already walking back to us.
“Are you ok” I asked
“Help me there’s a spirit in side me” muttered Liena shivering.
“Right” said Hilary sarcastically
“It’s true, why don’t you ever believe me” cried Liena leaning on Linda and sobbing on her shoulder while Linda gave her a hug and tried to calm her down but Liena tears out of her arms and climbs up a tree.
Turning around we hear a rustling in the bush and a monster about one meter tall jumps out. Hilary got such a fright she hide behind me while screaming in my ear
“WH…who are you” asked Linda
“I’m Mr. Woody” said the creature.
“Hi Mr. Woody” said Liena, climbing down from a tree.
“What are you doing here? We thought you had disappeared” said Hilary.
“Ah Yes well I came to warn you about Kakepuku” he growled. “There are evil forces sprouting. Some of your classmates have gone missing and we have gone back in time”.
There was a sudden sound of gasping, as though the air around us was nothing but toxic gas and everyone was trying to catch their breath.
“If you want to survive I advise you to go up to the top of Kakepuku” Mr. Woody roared. “That is the only way off this mountain. Then with one bound Mr. Woody disappeared over the trees.
“Well I guess that solves our problem of what we are going to do” I said. So we packed up our things and started up the steep track up the mountain.
It took a while but after passing many native trees, ferns and bushes we finally came to the top of the mountain we bumped into Richard, Joseph,
James and Jordan. As soon we had burst through the bushes our eyes were set on a small, green pyramid with five knee height steps up it
“What are you doing here” asked Richard
“The Mr. Woody creature told us to come up here’ said Hilary
“What is that thing” I asked
We have no idea” said Joseph
For the next half an hour we swapped stories of what happened to us
“Ok what do we do now’ I asked
Rumble! Another growl of thunder rolled across the sky. Startled we all looked up at the dark clouds in the sky heading towards us
“I don’t know but I sense evil up there and I think its closing in on us” said Jordan
“then I guess we have to jump down the pyramid” said Joseph
“Yes we have to” said Hilary. Quickly we all climbed up the steps to the pyramid
“Ok on three,” said Richard “ready one, two, three, jump”
We plunged into darkness of a never ending hole. I could feel great currents of air trying to push me around. Suddenly I heard a piercing scream and little lights flashed before my eyes. To me it looked Egyptian even though Joseph said they were Greek. The screaming stopped and I could hear Linda calming Leina down. “Its OK” I could hear her say.
The lights were getting and brighter until I had to close my eyes. As the lights began to spin faster and faster, I felt a light shock of pain run through my body as we began to fly up towards the hole in the top of the pyramid.
Whoosh; out we flow of the top of the pyramid and landing uncomfortably on the ground picking ourselves of the ground we looked around to see if anything had changed. Something had changed all right, as soon as I opened my eyes I heard a voice in my head
“Courteney, Courteney are you there” it said
“of course I here, its m head your in” I thought “who are you any way”
“It’s Linda, We all have the power to talk to people in our heads” though Linda “ok I will try it” I said “Hay Leina you there” I though
“Kia Ora” thought Leina
“great she’s speaking complete Maori, maybe I should have pad more attention” I though back to Linda causing her to giggle
“What’s so funny said Joseph
“Nothing” I said looking over to Linda
“Ok lets see what powers I have” said Richard. He was just about to pick up a tree when Jordan’s stomach rumbled causing me to giggle.
“Ok first lets some dinner and then we better get some sleep then we can see what powers we have.
The next morning we all got up early to see what powers we had and what to

“Ok first lets figure out what our powers are and then figure out what to do” ordered Hilary “and Courteney keep track”
“Aye aye captain” I said as I began to draw in the dirt a chart of who powers

“Ok so what do we do now?” asked James “I don’t know, maybe we should find out where everyone else is” suggested Jordan
“And how are we going to do that” asked Hilary
Courteney can see the future why not see if she can see the whole mountain as well” said Linda
“Ok” said Hilary “fire away”
By the time they had finished talking I had already found a comfortable position under a giant Kauri tree and was focusing my vision down the mountain to see were everyone was. It was an amazing site to see and also horrifying. Marissa had turned into a tree and Fred was a vine hanging off her, they were going around turning people turning them into animals.
Emily W was an immeasurable black spider beast and had turned Joelle into one but lucky for us I could sense that Joelle was good and she was heading up the mountain with Ella, a pink ell with legs.
There were plenty more animals and creatures and some weren’t even my class mates but before I could see anymore my mind flashed over to the future and what I saw was horrifying. A battle between good and evil, creatures of all sorts battling it out.
“What is this all about” I wondered
“Come my friends the battle is upon us” someone cried out but before I could see who had said that my mind was back in me body with 7 pairs of eyes staring at me with a worried look in there eyes
“Is everything alright? You looked scared” said Linda rapidly
“Wait a minute first question, what did you see?” asked Richard
“Well Emily’s a great big spider and she tuned Joelle into one as well but luckily for us she’s good and she’s heading up the mountain with Ella who is a pink eel with legs” I said
You mean like an axolotl” said Jordan
“Not quiet, she didn’t have any gills but she could still breathe under water
“Interesting” said Hilary
“What else did you see?” asked Joseph
“Well, Marissa is a giant Rimu tree and Fred is a vine hanging of her” I said
“How do you now it was Marissa and stuff?” asked Hilary
“Don’t ask me I just know for some reason” I answered
“Ok last question why did you look so scared?” asked Linda
“Oh that was properly was because there’s a battle coming up, the Battle Of Time I heard some one call it, but I don’t know what it is about” I finished.
“What should we do now?” I asked
“I know what to do” said Richard. He picked up a stick and began to draw a grid
“Ok, now Courteney came you draw were everyone is?” asked Richard.
Taking the stick I knelt over the grid, closing my eyes I pictured were
Everyone was and began to draw.
As soon as the stick touched the ground it began to glow and in a flash everything was exactly where I had seen it.
“Whoa, what was that?” asked James
“I don’t know all I know is that it was pretty amazing” said Jordan
“Hay, look the pictures a moving” exclaimed Hilary
“How did you do that?” whispered Linda
“I have no idea” I replied
“Oh no the Patuparehe are coming this Mr. woody told us about them and they aren’t the sort of things you want to meet” said Joseph
Quickly we sorted our who was going where
“Ok, Courteney are you sure your ok staying here” asked Linda
“Of course I’m sure” I said confidently
“Ok, off we go!” yelled Hilary running of in the direction of Joelle and Ella who had ran into Emily W while the other flew in their own directions.
It was a hot day and the sun had rise right over the mountain I decided to sit in the shade, under the pyramid and wait for Joelle. I didn’t have to wait for long because after a few minutes I heard the voices of Joelle and Ella
“Hi Courteney” said Joelle
“How are you going” asked Ella
“I’m fine” I answered “how are you
“We’re good apart from the part of being beast “Said Ella
“Can you change us back?” asked Joelle
“No, sorry” I said “but maybe you should stay like that for the battle
Up ahead”
“Good thinking” said Ella
“But what about me, someone might mistake me for Emily W and kill me.” said Joelle
“She has a point” said Ella
“Ok, then you see that pyramid over there” I exclaimed pointing to the pyramid
“Yaa” they said together
“Well, if you jump into it and then come back p you will turn into a superhero or you could go home” I said
“Superhero” they both shouted running to the pyramid and diving into it as if it was a hot sunny day at the beach
After about 10 minutes there heads popped back out again
“So what do we do now?” asked Ella
“Now we wait until someone else comes and tale they what I just told you”
I answered
It took a while but about after 1 and a half hours most of the class was here. Some had decided to go home but most stayed.
“Ok everyone we need some people to fight from the trees, some from the air and some from the ground, ok” yelled Hilary
“Yes” we answered scurrying into position.
I decided to fight from the ground as I made my way to the battle ground but as I did my mind began to flicker into the future.
“What?” I thought as it became clearer. It was telling me about what was happening back at home. Everything looked normally until I noticed that the day was repeating over and over again.
“So that’s the reason why we are have to fight,” I said
“What?” asked Linda
“We have to get everyone home” I said
“Why?” Linda asked again
“Because with out us the time on earth will keep repeating on and on until
Time suddenly stops forever” I said
“So?” asked Linda
“so this is the first time any human or creature has gone back in time and in doing so it has upset the balance of time that’s why it called the battle of time” I exclaimed excitedly
“Got it” said Linda
“Got what?” asked Hilary coming up from behind. While Linda explained it all to Hilary I carried on to my fighting position.
“Ok, everyone get ready” shouted Richard as the opposition arrived
“Charge” bellowed Joseph.
It felt like being in a stampede running furiously towards the on coming people. Linda had caught up to me
“here put these in for when the patuparehe start playing there hypnotic flute” she cried handing me two wooden cores to put in my ears.
They were uncomfortable but they sure came in handy.
When the patuparehe began to play, a thick mist started weaving through the battle field, all most blinding us. Taking control Linda and I began to defend everyone for being killed or wounded.
“We have to stop that flute” I thought to Linda
“I know” replied Linda. Making our way towards to where we had last seen the patuparehe we stumbled across Violet2 (Hilary) who had also gotten the cores from Linda.
“Violet2, Violet2!” Linda thought
“Yes” said Violet2
“Do you remember were the patuparehe are” I asked
“Um, yes the last time I sore then they were heading way” said Violet2
“Can you show us?” asked Linda
“Sure” answered Hilary moving in the direction she had just pointed to.
It quite hard having to run between every one who were frozen to the spot but we managed.
“Look there it is” thought Hilary
“But how are we going to get it?” I asked
“Hilary can you turn invisible and snatch it out of there hands’” asked Linda
“I will give it a try” thought Hilary hastily and in a flash she was gone.
Suddenly there was a ear bursting scream coming from Joelle who was being attacked by Emily W again. Before I could think I had slammed into Emily W and had flown into a tree. I was ok but the tree wasn’t and nether was Emily W who was lying on tree ground shivering.
“Can I have some help over here please?” I screeched at the top of my lungs and Hilary came scaring along.
“Yes what is it?” asked Hilary sounding a bit annoyed
“Can you get Emily in the Pyramid please” I asked
“Ok” said Violet2 unenthusiastically forming a force field around Emily W as I zoomed off to help some more of my class mates while something was nudging at the back my head
“28, 29, 30, 31, 32, right there that’s all of us” said James climbing up the stair with the others right behind him but something stopped me in my tracks
“Something wrong Courteney?” Linda asked and then it hit me
“No, did you see a walking tree in the fight” I asked
“Why no, no I didn’t’ answered Hilary
“Me nether” said Linda
“Right well them that means that some of us are still on the mountain hiding” I said
“But that’s not possible, after all I counted 32 people and monsters including us” said James looking at me with surprise
“Yes well have you ever though that some of the monsters might have all ready living on the mount just waiting for the chance to travel to our world” I said
‘Well yes, but wouldn’t them have already have been thought seeing how this thing was already on the mountain” asked Jordan
“No they couldn’t have because there was no one to replace so they couldn’t have gotten through” I said
“Then what are going to do if we go back then time will keep repeating and if we don’t know one will be able to get Marissa and that back” said Joseph worried
“Tell you what I will stay here and you go home to get the monsters that got through?” I offered
“But how will we get the monsters back on Kakepuku” asked Jordan
“Maybe if we get the monsters to the top of Kakepuku at the same time Courteney gets Marissa and co. in to the portal they will swap places and everything will be back to normal” suggested Richard
“Deal’ I said “right so lets say five thirty right here”
“Got you” said Linda “I’m going to miss you Courteney” and she disappeared down the portal.
What lay a head of me was unclear as I disappeared into the mist my mind was a blur, for all I ne the few days ahead were going to be a lot tougher that the first three days I had just survived.
